The digital euro project is entering a decisive phase. Necessary regulation is expected in 2026, technical work is advancing rapidly, and preparations for the pilot phase are underway. The current target for issuance is 2029.

The digital euro will fundamentally reshape European payments and significantly impact banks and financial service providers. However, uncertainty remains around technical and commercial design, implementation costs, revenue impact, and consumer value. This makes strategic planning challenging for banks and PSPs.

To support informed decision-making, we have invited key stakeholders to join the Digital Euro Circle — a new forum and online platform for decision makers and professionals engaged in the digital euro.

All interactions in member meetings, online as well as offline, abide by Chatham House rules – in other words, sharing of the content of conversations with parties outside of the membership and one’s own organization is prohibited.
